New Zealand prisoner under house arrest asked to serve out the remaining month of his sentence in prison because he had run out of Xbox games to play.

A 19-year-old man under house arrest in Whangarei, New Zealand has pleaded with police to serve out the final stretch of his 11-month sentence in jail because he was "sick of playing Xbox."

) that the man rang police on Tuesday to say he had "run out of Xbox games to play" and would breach his home detention if he wasn't placed in jail to serve out the remaining month of his sentence.

The man is now serving in Northland Region Corrections Facility, which serves 548 prisoners and ranges from minimum to high security detention.

The Northern Advocate reports that judges in New Zealand's Northland region have said home arrest is not as easy a sentence as it might sound.

Under the house arrest laws in New Zealand, prisoners are required to stay indoors and are placed under electronic surveillance. The maximum sentence for house arrest under New Zealand law is 12 months.
