In 1999, Nintendo released a game that would define a genre: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64. The game pit classic Nintendo characters against each other in timed or stock death matches, but didn't follow the complicated combo structure of fighting games such as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.
