Due to Activision's court case with Call of Duty's creators Vince Zampella and Jason West in 2012, Activision needed to release its original contract with Bungie for Destiny, with the following clause as revealed by Kotaku:
Activision shall pay to Licensor a quality bonus (the "Quality Bonus") in the amount of Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($2,500,000) should Destiny Game #1 achieve a rating of at least 90 as determined by gamerankings.com (or equivalent reputable services if gamerankings.com is no longer in sen/ice) as of thirty (30) days following the commercial release of Destiny Game #1 on Xbox 360.
In other words, so long as the overall rating for Destiny on Gamerankings or Metacritic marks higher than 90, Activision will pay Bungie $2.5M. That won't happen. I know I wrote "likely" in that title, but who are we kidding? More in www.gamerevolution.com »
