News: Mario Kart 8 can catalyse Wii U sales, says Nintendo

The kart racer is a killer franchise.
"I certainly feel that Mario Kart 8 can be the catalyst that will broaden Wii U's horizons," Nintendo UK's Mario brand manager Roger Langford told MCV. "It's very important for us that we have a successful launch."
Earlier this month Nintendo announced that the Wii U sold only 2.72 million units for the year ended March 31, 2014. This puts the console's life-to-date total at 6.17 million units. Nintendo has forecast Wii U hardware sales for the year ending March 31, 2015 at 3.6 million units.
