Iwata was absent from today's meeting because of widely publicised medical problems.

The pressure remains laser focussed on Iwata, however, following Nintendo's continued failure to turn around its fortunes. Back in 2011 Iwata's stock was high with an approval rating of 92.9 per cent, but saw this drop to only 77.3 per cent last year.

Mario Kart 8 has now sold two million copies, but it remains to be seen if the game can prove a solid system seller in the months to come.
