Aaron Ploof from Digibytes reviews God of War: Ascension: "I dont know why this story needed to be told ; it seems as if the writers wanted to lend Kratos some more humanity, but they majorly skimmed on that chance. The storyline doesnt tell us anything we didnt already know about Kratos, and it gives us no hints as to where the series mythology may be heading. The only reason I can think of for its existence is to satiate the thirst of God of War fanatics for the fourth official installment." It may seem as if I hate the game, but thats not true. Its not entirely pointless, just forgettable in every sense of the word. There are some truly epic moments in the final boss battle, but they come nowhere near the scale that was set in the past six games. God of War: Ascension is nowhere near the game it could have been."
