Over the course of two years, Masahiro Sakurai has been directing a team at Namco Bandai to produce no less than two Super Smash Bros. games, one for Wii U and 3DS. Such a task is highly challenging, with the need to create two separate games, of intense complexity and depth, to release at a specific time frame. Clearly, such work has taken its toll on Mr. Sakurai. Though hes long implied that the stress of the job may hold him back from any future installments, an interview with Game Informer magazine makes it even clearer that Mr. Sakurai wishes for the newest Smash Bros. games to be his last run at the series.
