Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal finds itself in an odd place. Despite being a Sonic game, it isnt meant for fans of the series. Fast-paced platforming takes a step back in favor of exploration, familiar characters sport unfamiliar designs, and new developer Sanzaru Games is left in charge. Its worth noting that both this version of Boom and its Wii U counterpart are meant to help market a new TV show on Cartoon Network. Obviously, the target audience is small children. Still, I cant imagine many kids appreciating Shattered Crystals repetitive gameplay, constant backtracking, or overall blandness.
