Video game developer Brent Waller is packing up the last of his belongings at SEGA studios in Brisbane.It's Monday. On Tuesday, the studio will shut its doors for good."There's not really many places for us to work anymore," he says.The high Australian dollar and generous subsidies in countries such as Canada have destroyed the local industry.But Waller is not downcast. He's excited.When SEGA announced the closure in March, he and four industry veterans decided it was time, in his words, "to do our own thing".By day they worked on SEGA's Castle of Illusion title. But by night, they conceived a plan to create their own game: Satellite Reign.After a gap of two decades, it would be the "spiritual successor" to the Syndicate series - the cyberpunk strategy games that developed a cult following in the '90s.
