Has Valve's Counter-Strike Fallen Down The Drain?

It seems like when I tell people about Valves latest development, Global Offensive, they don't even seem to know what that is, so what exactly happened? Has counter strike really vanished? Let's take it back a few years, and all agree with the fact that this game at its time, was in fact, to say the least, phenomenal. I'm sure little would disagree when I say that this was by far one of the best games back in the early millennium.
