Windborne, a title from Hidden Path Entertainment (Defense Grid, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Age of Empires II HD) brings a lot of originality to a group of games that are generally looked down upon. I got a chance to play an early early access version of the game, and while it obviously takes a lot from the most successful sandbox game this generation, there are many wholly original aspects of it that are just really spectacular.
