Animal Crossing: New Leaf - It's my first day, leave me alone weirdos

Ben Salter of MMGN: Im sitting on a train just minding my own business as the world rushes past. Quietly shitting my pants.
With nothing but the clothes on my back and a cheap haircut, I have a terrible secret. Out of desperation to threats from the mob, I agreed to take the position of Mayor of Stirls, a lazy town monoplosied by the greedy Nook corporation that, for some reason, is baron of qualified applicants. Its clueless citizens are too enthralled by cherries to realise they are being scammed by a conniving realtor and what I think are his two sons from a scandalous affair.

Chris Buffa (Modojo): Nintendo's Animal Crossing series is somewhat of a tough sell because it strays outside the video game norm that involves shooting monsters, racing sports cars and solving puzzles. Inevitably, some folks simply won't get it, as was the case with the original GameCube version in 2001. Imagine a college senior gushing about living with anthropomorphic animals, only to watch dumbfounded as friends scratched their heads and left to play something with guns and swords. It was basically PaRappa the Rapper all over again; I received plenty of confused stares over that one too.

Hello there! Apparently, my name is Mayor Squashie, that's correct, I have hung up my boots as the Editor of Nintendo Feed and I've retired to be the Mayor of a little town called Greenly. I received my copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf around mid-May and I've been playing pretty much none-stop since then. I'll be sharing my exciting adventures as the Mayor of Greenly with you through my weekly Journal.

Given that Animal Crossing: New Leaf has been a hugely anticipated game for the Nintendo 3DS, we thought it would be nice to chronicle the playthrough to give you just a taste of things to come. There will be minor spoilers here, mostly because each day introduces new features, but the game does give you a tremendous amount of freedom. GR:Some games are completely incomprehensible difficult to explain to outsiders, although they should be obvious to understand. Animal Crossing has always been such a game for me.

DT:A new leaf has not been turned. Rather, an old dog is on display. Faithful, loyal, and hard to dislike, but you know what it can do already.
