Built on the Devil May Cry 4 engine, Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen tries to make its way as a fast paced, combat focused, sandbox typed exploration RPG, but how does it do?

Despite all of the negativity, those who didnt play the original title would be wise to plump for Dark Arisen; Dragons Dogma remains a wonderful game doubly so at this bargain price point and it is certainly the definitive version of the title for now. For those who did play it though, theres very little to recommend buying all over again what little new content there is only serves to draw the spotlight back on to the games weakest areas rather than the strongest, and whilst some performance and UI tweaks are welcome, they dont even begin to touch on the bigger issues the game still bears, and they are certainly of no recompense for the much more immediately obvious squandering of potential.

| In-depth Review: Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen - Electronic Theatre
Added: 30.05.2013 13:23 | 25 views | 0 comments
Having made its debut this time last year, Dragons Dogma was met with significant critically acclaim upon release with many citing it as one of the biggest surprises of 2012. Electronic Theatre found the videogame to be a hugely entertaining endeavour, both deep and progressive despite its relatively lacking technical clout. With the release of Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen billed as an expansion pack some might be miffed at the inclusion of the entire original release, but though who invested early need not be dismayed as there is enough new content in this new retail package to warrant a budget-priced second purchase.

"Granted, there are a lot of simple monsters to overcome and the killing of the big guys does get easier, but I have never spent so much time immersed on a single battle (real time and game time) than I have in Dragons Dogma. Defeating my first dragon took me from early morning to night time in game time and approximately an hour and fifteen minutes in real time (excluding the two or three reloads I was forced to make)."

Valhalla Knights 3 apparently provided even less than the "modest" Vita sales blip I predicted. Here are Japan's top 20 best-selling games for the week ending May 26. It's a great debut for the game, but the Vita as a platform needs more than one game in a month. VH3 represents its one and only.
1. Shin Megami Tensei IV - 3DS (188,562)
2. Kamen Rider Battride War - PS3 (128,659)
3. Biohazard Revelations - PS3 (102,673)
4. Friend Collection - 3DS (59,876)
5. Valhalla Knights 3 - PSV (40,357)
6. Terraria - PS3 (19,861)
7. Luigi's Mansion 2 - 3DS (19,079)
8. Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 3DS (15,489)
9. Summon Night 5 - PSP (13,624)
10. Biohazard Revelations - WIU (8,398)
11. Biohazard Revelations - 360 (7,053)
12. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - PS3 (5,334)
13. Taiko Drum Master Continues to Not Give a Fuuuck - Wii (5,190)
14. Z/X: Zillions of Enemy, By Which They Probably Mean EnemIES But Hey - PS3 (5,019)
15. Dragon Ball Heroes - 3DS (4,105)
16. Tamagochi: Still Popular Here - 3DS (3,961)
17. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 3DS (3,517)
18. MuvLuv Alternative: Total Eclipse - PS3 (3,138)
19. Mario Kart 7 - 3DS (3,045)
20. Monster Hunter Tri-G - 3DS (2,612)
Hardware totals look like this:
3DS - 54,710
PS3 - 13,318
PSV - 12,171
PSP - 5,749
WIU - 5,648
WII - 1,192
360 - 382
Comrade Bras will share my disappointment that the 360 once again finished so close to, well, 360. We're all waiting for el dia muy especial. Which of course, is Spanish for "the dia very especial."

'As unlikely as it was for Japan to produce two sleeper hit RPGs within a year of one another, there was much to compare Dragons Dogma to Dark Souls. They are both uncharacteristically influenced by Western dark fantasy and action oriented RPGs, both eschewed the genre in interesting ways, both featured unusual asynchronous online elements, and both boasted slightly obscure systems that did little to cool the enthusiasm of a fiercely loyal community. Now Dragons Dogma follows Dark Souls lead; rewarding the tenacity of its fans by releasing a substantial challenge in the form of a new dungeon that is not for the faint of heart (or the low of level).'

'Dragons Dogma is a title that stands out for many reasons; some of them good and some of them not so much. The majority of the latter is usually in relation to Capcoms business practices as opposed to the quality of the game. Weve all heard the complaints that Dark Arisen should have been a DLC and how even discounting the price of a full game release doesnt make up for the fact that Capcom is trying to squeeze as much money out of gamers as they can. Normally I would agree but the fact of the matter is this; the new content itself is longer, more challenging, and more satisfying than many major full release games this generation. Sure it sucks for those of us who already owned the original game, as I myself do, but being forced to shell out more than your typical DLC price does not embitter the quality of the content.'
