Bioshock Infinite: Empathising with the Handyman

Added: 22.04.2013 23:18 | 12 views | 0 comments

"The Handyman is sorely misunderstood by Columbias people, as a spectacle and technological wonder, not a person. As Booker walks through the streets of Shantytown, he comes across two Vox posing with the slumped body of a dead Handyman while their friend takes a photograph." Jack Bromley talks about the Handyman as a tragic figure, and how he fits into the Bioshock: Infinite universe and enhances its narrative themes. "Plenty have complained that they should have been featured more prominently as their omnipresence in the trailers suggested but like the Boys of Silence, theyre placed and distributed so that they can be perfectly appreciated as unique characters and not faceless recurring obstacles."

Review: Bioshock Infinite

Added: 22.04.2013 21:18 | 41 views | 0 comments

"Bioshock Infinite is a hard game to judge. Do I critique it based off the original Bioshock, or as a stand alone entity? Certainly Bioshock was one of the most influential games of the last ten years, and fact has to be taken into consideration. Infinites comments on politics, religion and racemajor aspects of the experienceare also worthy of their own separate articles. Let us not forget the violence debate surrounding the game and whether or not the ending is a logical and satisfactory conclusion. Bear with me as I attempt to cram all this into one review. As Infinites protagonist Booker DeWitt enters the sky-city of Columbia for the first time, I can safely say you will be in awe. An example of extreme American exceptionialism, the bright colors and early 1900s aesthetic make Columbia one of the most imaginative, beautiful and disturbing videogame settings in recent memoryeven more so, dare I say, than Bioshocks underwater city of Rapture." - Lowell Bell

If you've finished BioShock: Infinite (and if you havent, you should get on that immediately), youre probably in mourning for what you've lost when you left the beautiful yet lethal world of Columbia. But fear not: There are some ways to recreate the experiences you shared with Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth. And you dont have to supply enough weapons to arm an entire uprising to do so.

Bioshock Infinite: Bioshockingly Good | TruTechNoid

TruTechNoid Write's "Bioshock Infinite is an original FPS with a colourful world that puts all FPSS to shame. The graphics are without a doubt some of the best I have ever seen, and I spent hours just exploring the vibrant and perfectly detailed vintage world. Infinite is not a direct sequel/prequel to any of the Bioshock games, although it does hold similarities to its preprocessors game play. The year is 1912 and you play Booker Dewitt a former Pinkerton agent sent to the sky city Columbia to rescue a young girl named Elizabeth. Once there, exploration is key, with tonnes of collectables, items and wonderful scenery, it took me a good few hours to get through the first area as I was looking at everything and everyone."

Console Monster - BioShock Infinite Review

Added: 10.04.2013 2:18 | 28 views | 0 comments

Console Monster - It has been a while since we last set foot in a world of scares and uncertainty, seven years in fact (since the original BioShock). BioShock Infinite is set almost fifty years before the events of Rapture and, as always, it starts with a lighthouse. You play as Booker DeWitt and it is your job to retrieve Elizabeth and pay off a debt to unscrupulous individuals. When ringing the bells at the top of the lighthouse for the first time and you see the red lights blink in the sky with musical sounds - this reminds you of the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind when they communicate with the spacecraft and its visual light show.

Dies, Died, Will Die: An Analysis of BioShock Infinite

***SPOILER ALERT!!***
Shame on me for not playing BioShock Infinite until this past weekend. I can blame the game for releasing on the same week as GDC 2013, but I must admit that I've been caught in a replay of Final Fantasy VII... which in hindsight is serendipitously about the mind filling in the gaps with false memories. Is Cloud Strife simply Booker DeWitt in the multiverse of possibilities? Yes, those are the kind of analytical questions I posed after finishing BioShock Infinite. (My mind goes into mysterious places.)
