The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - GR Review

Added: 07.10.2014 0:00 | 11 views | 0 comments

There’s something here. You just have to find it.

Recently, I put on the shoes of Paul Prospero, a gravelly-voiced detective and medium, and joined his search for a young boy, Ethan Carter. Paul had entered Red Creek Valley in response to a letter he received from the child speaking of something dark going on. As I delved into the mystery, peppered with old spirits and supernatural occurrences, I often questioned what I was getting out of the experience. The immediate answer is a visually arresting walk through an all-but-abandoned world, and the later answer is an ending that subverted my expectations.

Gamezebo's Carter Dotson says "Pokémon TCG Online isnt bad; its just 'a game stuck on the iPad' versus a game made for iPad that also exists on other platforms and it shows... There are plenty of rewards for those who dive in, but I still think Pokémon TCG Onlines entry to the iPad could have been smoother."

Gale write -"My first playing session of this game had me going wow all the time. The amount of details on everything was astounding the textures were rich, forests felt alive and colours amazingly vivid. I knew this game was special right from the start, but in what manner that was still a mystery to me. So I kept playing, astounded by the masterfully crafted world Paul Prospero, the protagonist, found himself in. The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter is a detective story of sorts, but one thats deeply entwined with eldritch lore established by the likes of Lovecraft in a very intricate way. This is no horror game not in the traditional sense at least, as you have very little to fear while playing it."

Ray Porreca of Entertainment Buddha writes: "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter does a lot of things very well. Few video games manage to not only look as good as Ethan Carter does, but also deliver a story that allows for the player to be genuinely invested in it. Combining paranormal elements and a haunting tale of familial struggle, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter engages players on virtually every level."

Avoiderdragon: Adventure games in 2014 havent really been that perfect. There were some gems, while some were flawed despite their potential, and some just didnt get released as promised at all. Its a far cry from the optimism of 2012 when Kickstarter campaigns were getting money left, right, and center. Just when hope is lost, heres one that looks like it had more than just a few people who worked on it in their lunch break.
