Retro Review: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow | oprainfall

oprainfall's Guy Rainey writes:
"Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow begins with a man named Soma Cruz, a transfer student in Japan climbing to the top of the Hakuba Shrine to witness the solar eclipse in 2035 (Dont be alarmed; the game may start in Japan, but that has no real influence on the plot or design). Somehow, at the point of the eclipse, he is drawn into Draculas Castle where he comes across Mina Hark- I mean, Mina Hakuba, a personal friend of Somas, and a strange man named Genya Arikadyo. Genya tells Soma that he has the ability to absorb the powers of the monsters in the castle, which Soma promptly goes out to explore."

Hardcore Gamer: Let me assure you: writing a review about Jason Rohrers newest game, The Castle Doctrine, is hard to do, simply for the fact that its hard to articulate what exactly The Castle Doctrine is. It has mechanical puzzle elements, strategy themes, micromanagement components, constant competition, and asynchronous MMO elements. Very few games focus on creating a massive security system for your home to protect your valuables, while also trying to bypass your neighbors security system. What game does that? What game encourages that sense of taking advantage of competitors weakness, tricking challengers, all for your own personal gain? While writing this review, it came to me. I figured out what The Castle Doctrine was.

(CriticalIndieGamer) The front door slams open, darkness obscures all but the corridor in front of me. Meticulously I scrutinise the walls for other rooms, knowing that behind any of the doors lays certain death. I tentatively enter a room to find a cowering family before me. Mother, daughter and son scramble out , making a break for the front door. A close call; had they owned a gun, I would be dead. I continued further down the hall, peeking through another door; to my dismay, I was face to face with a bloodthirsty pit bull. Hot on my heels, the ravenous beast chased me back through the hallway and out of the house. I returned home, a little worse for wear, but empty-handed. Crossing the threshold, a pool of blood encircled my shoes. While I was out, my wife had been murdered, and my savings stolen. This is brutal. This is The Castle Doctrine.

| Review: Unepic (Pure Nintendo)
Added: 30.01.2014 3:16 | 12 views | 0 comments
Pure Nintendo 'Double Review':
Justin 'J Money' Hinton, "Unepic is a joy to play and there is a ton of room within Harnakons Castle to explore. The humor scattered throughout the game provides some lightheartedness within an otherwise dark gameworld. Even though I had a few small issues with Unepic, I never found that they were impacting my satisfaction with the game while playing. With only having played the game in the normal difficulty setting it is hard to tell if Unepic would be easy enough for a younger gamer to play but fans of RPG games will definitely want to give Unepic a whirl."
Trevor Gould, "With a story that surprised with its sheer amount of humor, control that impressed with how well it used the Wii U GamePad and (most of all) fun gameplay that kept me hooked, Unepic proved itself a triumph on every front! There is so much more I could talk about. Unepic is one of the best Wii U games Ive played yet!"
