Apparently the impossible is possible, because I beat Demon's Souls with no armor, no shields, no magic, no bows, and great weapons only. I honestly thought the playthrough would last a few episodes at most, and yet here we are months later. In typical Souls fashion there were highs and lows (I'm looking at you Flamelurker), but the satisfaction of victory trumps everything.
