1. Quan Chi

Sword swallowing's an ancient yet dangerous skill, particularly if it's forced upon you by Quan Chi.

2. Kung Lao

Kung Lao's a Shaolin Monk with a razor-brimmed hat. A deadly combo you want to stay as far away from as possible.

3. D'Vorah

D'Vorah may be an insect herself, but she squashes her opponents like bugs.

4. Johnny Cage

Here's Johnny! All work and no play make Johnny Cage a dull boy.

5. Jacqueline Briggs

We're not sure we even want to understand what's happening in this picture.

6. Ermac

Looks like someone just lost their lunch. So will everyone who plays the new Mortal Kombat.

7. Erron Black

The mysterious new gunslinger offers a face full of lead for his finishing move.

8. Ferra & Torr

Ferra & Torr are a deadly duo. If you're not careful, they'll rip you in two.

9. Kenshi

The blind swordsman Kenshi has no interest in letting his opponent's save face.

10. Kotal Kahn

Kotal Kahn's a heartbreaker in the true sense of the word.

11. Jax

Hey, put that cigar out! Maybe it's time Jax switched to vaping.

12. Mileena

Finally, someone's trumped Street Figher's Blanka for the most vicious face biting in video game history.

13. Cassie Cage

Cassie takes after her father Johnny Cage, with their shared penchant for camera mugging.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain - 15 Hours in Afghanistan

I Wish I Could Say More

I would love to talk at length about Big Boss, Master Miller, and Ocelot as characters, but I'm not allowed to. I interacted with Quiet, the silent, barely-clad sniper, on more than one occasion, but Konami would have my head if I went into any more detail than that. There were so many unexpected moments that left me agasp that I simply can't talk about.

Afghanistan is one of several locales in the game, and I walked away amazed that it took me so long to get through the main missions there, let alone the side op missions, many of which fell by the wayside as I tried to get through as much of the story as possible. I had a lot of questions going into the event, and while some were answered, there are so many more that cropped up. The Phantom Pain is unlike any other Metal Gear game I've ever played, and I can't wait to finish what I started.
