"It's been kind of bipolar," says lead artist.
We rather liked Max and the Curse of Brotherhood for Xbox One, but a sizeable segment of the press weren't quite as keen. Here to discuss that and the forthcoming Xbox 360 version is Lasse Middelbo Outzen, lead artist at Copenhagen studio Press Play.

Steve Baltimore writes "I had a lot of fun with this title."
"It can be a bit repetitive, but the colorful environments, great characters and the hilarious story more than made up for it."
"Some of you may find the game a bit too easy once you have leveled up your equipment, but I found it fun to experiment with other equipment, and to grind for trophies."
"There is a good amount of post-game content, as well, in the form of one very restricted dungeon, and one very big one."
"In the end, if you like a good dungeon crawl on the go, I dont see how you could go wrong with this one."
"If you are a fan of classic roguelike dungeon crawlers, you will find a lot to love here."
"For the price tag of $39.99, you get about 25 hours of main storyline content, and quite a bit more, if you want all the trophies."
"So, grab a spoon and dig into this one for some curry-filled fun!"

Shane at GameCloud writes: "Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is both a surprising and charming game, with a unique twist on the platforming genre. While its a simple tale, the game is packed full of wonderful moments and provides you a sense of achievement when drawing yourself out of problematic situations. The combination of challenging puzzles and fun visuals reminiscent of a Pixar film makes this action filled title an enjoyable experience for any fan of the genre."

Ian of iGR writes: "Its no secret that we have all wished someone away that was making us mad. If youd like to explore what it would be like if it actually happened, play this game. A reimaging of Press Plays Max and the Magic Marker from 2010, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a follow-up 2.5D side-scrolling platform game."

The sequel to Max The Magic Marker (a 2010 WiiWare downloadable title that didnt do so well and was then ported to everything except the Xbox) this adventure sees Max heading headlong into a weird and wonderful world in an attempt to save his brother from the big ghastly beast that just upped and grabbed him. The story is thin and poorly explained but whilst that can often be a hindrance here it doesnt really make a great deal of difference. Not too far into the adventure you are presented with a magic marker that can enable Max to create and delete certain items like trees, dirt and water in specific highlighted areas - what is experienced from this point on is a puzzle game with light platforming and unfortunately for all its good intentions and relatively creative puzzles, Max will drive you to rage due to the ropey controls.
