From paulsemel: While "Until Dawn" is flawed, it's mostly in the "movie" department.

Until Dawn Review | GodisaGeek

Adam Cook: "The simplest way of describing Until Dawn without in any way spoiling it, is to say that if you like Quantic Dreams games and think the idea of that style mixed with an I Know What You Did Last Summer or Scream style narrative would be good, youre probably going to really dig it. Its a hugely cinematic experience that boils down to asking you to move, pick things up, and complete QTE events, but its player choice is so dramatic that youll really want to play through it multiple times to see what happens should you choose differently. While some of the characters are stereotypical, the voice work more than makes up for it, and its a beautifully directed piece of visual design. It wont win many awards, but its destined to be a cult hit, and deservedly so."

Justin Celani writes: Horror movies have always seemingly found a core audience that loves to get scared time and time again. As games have moved to the world of realism, this source of entertainment has started to bleed with Hollywood. Youve seen games like Heavy Rain that focus on a more narrative driven story that is altered by choices to varying degrees. What if I told you we finally have a horror game that aims to do just that, giving us multiple choices with the ability to weave the narrative and get scared in the process?

Until Dawn Review | IGN

IGN: At its best, Until Dawn is a gleefully cheesy homage to horror movies, set in a world built by a developer that clearly adores the genre. Although its thrills are tempered by a lack of story cohesion, its robust choice-and-consequence system and keen eye on horrors most ridiculous tropes makes Until Dawn ultimately worth playing.

Until Dawn Review | GameCloud

William Kirk at GameCloud writes: "Im going to say it outright, Until Dawn is the best horror adventure since Eternal Darkness: Sanitys Requiem. For the longest time, developers such as Quantic Dream have tried to make this style of game work only to end up getting stuck halfway between a film and a game. With Until Dawn, Supermassive has laid the foundation for how it can be done while producing an enjoyable and highly polished horror experience. Its an adventure game brought to life by a compelling cast of characters and a narrative that expertly plays with genre tropes to upturn expectations. Its certainly not original in all its ideas, but it does deliver one of the most meaningful choice systems to date. What once looked to be a disaster has turned out to be one of this years biggest surprises. Expect great scares and to have a tonne of fun!"

Shannon from Press Start Australia said: "Until Dawn is a thrilling experience. For horror fans, this will be one of the best horror experiences that gaming has seems in years. Its a perfect balance of story telling and gameplay and doesnt drag on at all. I constantly found myself wanting to go back to find out what happened next which is rare in gaming narrative. Those looking for constant action may be disappointed, but Id advise anybody who wants a unique and new experience to give it a go"

OnlySP: I love being surprised by games like Until Dawn. I, like many others, look at games like Until Dawn, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and the like with some disdain, thinking theyre a bit too cinematic and wont be all that fun to actually play. However, as with Heavy Rain, I made that mistake going in not expecting much, and coming out having played one of my favorite games of this year.
