Deadly Premonition: cult classic or overrated mess? Find out for yourself for £1.99

Added: 14.03.2015 1:19 | 12 views | 0 comments

Dealspwn: "Deadly Premonition tells one of the best videogame stories of all time, an uncanny and kooky supernatural detective thriller that's like Twin Peaks meets Silent Hill. However, it's also a mechanical mess and a graphical disaster. Personally I adore Deadly Premonition, and firmly argue that it's one of the best games of the decade -- not in a 'so bad it's good' kind of way, but legitimately great -- but my senior editor used to Skype me every time I wrote an article about it to moan about the visuals and controls. Philistine. No three people can agree on whether it's brilliant or awful, but for £1.99, there's no better time to find out for yourself."

DmC: Definitive Edition Review - Dante's Deadly Delight [Dealspwn]

Dealspwn writes: Despite the incredibly frustrating platforming, it's impossible to deny that this really is the Definitive Edition of a classic melee-action title. Newbies can enjoy the slickest version on the market, packed with all the DLC. Returning hardcore fans will find a serious challenge in the extra difficulties and hardcore modifiers. All that fuss over a haircut seems pretty stupid now.

The greatest game objective of all time

Added: 10.03.2015 16:00 | 23 views | 0 comments

D4 - Deadly Premonition director Swery's surreal cold case mystery - is remarkable for many things. There's mannequin love, there's time travel, there's a lady who is also a cat, there's a lot of magazines to collect for almost no reason. But no one mentions its true achievement. This single game objective, the greatest series of words ever turned into a prerequisite for progress though a game. And, like all great games, it must be stolen from. I've taken it upon myself to put this, the greatest game objective of all time, into a few other Xbox stalwarts, so that you can understand the improvement. After the horror of No Russian and with the looming fear of a nuclear detonation, this would prove a welcome interstitial mission. Ol' Soap gets to stop for a sit down and a coo over some waterproof birds. For added fun, the line of ducklings would never stop coming until you passed an arbitrary, invisible point on the map. Be fair, this wouldn't be the weirdest bit of dialogue in the game. The Colonel could even repeat it in that creepy bit where he keeps turning into a skull, but spell "duck" as "death" or something. Ubisoft's sinister hive mind of devs long ago realised that if you've got one good objective, it should be repeated around 50 times. Bench relaxation is already a major part of the series - duck reconaissance should not be an exception to that rule. This bit was really dour. We'd have to lose the bench (acceptable), but if a duck family stood on top of the coffin and quacked out The Last Post, we think it'd really lighten the mood. A personal favourite, here. Replace famed warrior Lu Bu with a six-foot duck holding a scythe, and stick an inviting-looking Chinese pew next to it. That idea alone is better than the last four Warriors spin-offs combined. Enough said.
Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters - review - Just Push Start

Kai Powell writes "Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is a new role-playing game from the relatively new players in the field, Toybox Inc. Much of the team had previously worked on Deadly Premonition, a cult classic that was quite polarizing by critics and fans alike. Now, the team looks forward to letting American audiences get their hands on their own take on the RPG scene. Part visual novel, part strategy RPG, this is a mesh of genres that are rarely seen in English regions (Sengoku Rance be damned, that series still hasnt come out on consoles). Can Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters appeal to fans of both visual novels and RPGs, or is this supernatural title destined to be haunted?"
