Ride to Hell: Retribution Review | Hardcore Gamer

Added: 26.06.2013 18:18 | 13 views | 0 comments

Hardcore Gamer: "Being a critic can sometimes lead to an odd juxtaposition of games. While your average gamer may play Tomb Raider and naturally progress to BioShock Infinite, I had the privilege of playing The Last of Us before transitioning intoRide to Hell: Retribution. Thats not to say that Im holding it against the title by unfairly comparing it; The Last of Us was a special experience thats rarely obtained in the medium. Instead, I at best had hope for a strange so bad its good experience along the lines of Deadly Premonition. But not only did Ride to Hell turn out to hardly be playable, but a dying relic of a time where uninformed gamers could be bilked out of a quick buck from a studio desperate to salvage whatever financial gain possible from a failed project."

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut review | TT

Added: 24.06.2013 18:17 | 8 views | 0 comments

TT writes: I could begin this review the same way I do many others; I could state the genre (Survival Horror), and I could describe the similarities that I found between it and other games that I have played. For example: the general combat and navigation mechanic reminded me of Resident Evil 4 on the Wii (albeit not as precise or polished); the sound effects, music and dialog with NPCs, on the other hand, reminded me of the No More Heroes franchise with their cheesy and awkward repetitiveness. If I continued this train of thought for a few paragraphs, youd hear me mentioning Alan Wake, Dead Rising, Stephen Kings The Mist, and possibly even L.A. Noire. However, in my couple of weeks with Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut, none of those references felt quite right there was something about this game that felt very eerily familiar, and I couldnt quite put my finger on it. So I continued to play. And then it hit me.

There is no way to accurately reflect this game with a numerical value, as you could make an argument that virtually any score reasonably reflects the game. Ranking it as a 3 would be every bit as legitimate and justifiable as giving it a 7. By the same token, ranking it as a 5 in order to imply balance between the good and bad aspects would be a cop-out, and not a fair means of rating the game.
