There is no way to accurately reflect this game with a numerical value, as you could make an argument that virtually any score reasonably reflects the game. Ranking it as a 3 would be every bit as legitimate and justifiable as giving it a 7. By the same token, ranking it as a 5 in order to imply balance between the good and bad aspects would be a cop-out, and not a fair means of rating the game.

The game is not perfect, and it's not bad, Deadly Premonition is somewhere in between, but one thing is for sure, it's unlike any other survival horror you have played before.

Deadly Premonition is the perfect definition of a work whose whole is better than the sum of its parts. As you would expect for a game that holds the dubious title of the worlds most divisive game, it is easy to make a convincing argument on either side of the scale.

"Weve grown so accustomed to the faultless sheen of modern games to the soulless bombast from generic action titles that to be presented with something that feels designed from the ground up as the antithesis of such titles feels like a genuine shock one that makes you question the qualities of a great game. For to dismiss a game based on sub-par graphics, arguably broken controls and production values that vary sharply (between bargain basement and ten floors below said bargain basement level), would mean missing out on one of the most divisive yet strangely compelling gaming experiences of this (or any) generation." says CalmDownTom

Richard of PopCults.com writes "At an E3 show that would feature mature titles like Battlefield 4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Saints Row IV, it is nice to see that some family games were present and well-represented at the expo. Certain companies have made it a point to show off games aimed at the family oriented gamer and one of the most high profile companies doing so is Rising Star Games. Known for titles such as Deadly Premonition, Virtues Last Reward and Harvest Moon, at E3 Rising Star Games definitely concentrated on the family aspect of gaming."

There are endless second chances in the video game world. Titles are constantly being re-released, either carefully curated to retain their nostalgic appeal or packed with new features to lure players into purchasing a beloved title for a second (or third...) time.
Usually there's nothing to object to in these new editionswho could be offended by crisper graphics and slightly tweaked controls? Looked at in that context, Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut is something of an accomplishment: how often is one of these remakes editions significantly worse than the game it's based on?

The creator of "Deadly Premonition" is the Japanese Hidetaka Suehiro, who also calls himself SWERY. He looks like a man who has a great vision, but neither the tools nor the skill has to implement it perfectly. So he has created a game that takes its proper shape only in the mind of the players. And that is exactly why it's so good.

A review of Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut that not only carefully looks over the port with a fine tooth comb, but also back at its history. And the author's. Err, not that anyone cares, of course!
