Deadpool The Game The Review - The Geek Link

The Geek Link writes - You shouldnt expect that any game starring someone whose tagline is The Merc With a Mouth to be a lot of things; subtle, polite, safe for work. Especially safe for work. Heck, in the first 5 minutes of playing Deadpool asks his dog how licking his balls is working out for him. Deadpool, one of Marvel Comics most beloved and extremely irreverent characters, has made appearances in many video games over the years, most recently in Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Of all of Marvels lineup Deadpool is by far one of the least constrained by his reality, having multiple personalities that you talk to as well as full on delusions can have that effect on you.

Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth, just put out his own video game with the help of High Moon Studios (Transformers: Fall of Cybertron) that perfectly captures the essence of this mentally unstable dick joke making Marvel superhero. Deadpool the game is a great introduction to the titular character and his unique brand of disturbed humor that ultimately is a parody of recent video game design tropes, and at times of itself.
Its comedic value is high if youre into schizophrenic potty humor that resembles conversations heard in a boys middle school locker room, and boobs. Unfortunately, this game ends up becoming the type of experience that it tries to make fun of throughout its 8-hour campaign, and ends up being another button mashing affair to rid the world of generic enemy types and a few lesser known Marvel villains.

Guns, swords, girls.
There's always a point at which self-awareness turns into self-defense and Deadpool spends much of its time prancing back and forth over that line. In the comics, the character's penchant for breaking the fourth wall is used strategically to surprise and delight the reader by drawing them into the playfully manic mind of the Merc with the Mouth.

Forbes - Since his inception, Deadpool has been a vehicle, of sorts, for Marvel writers to test boundaries and acceptabilities, while also poking fun at their own genre. The Merc with the Mouth has undergone a handful of iterations and reimaginings, but through them all he has remained the wise cracking, fourth-wall-breaking, chaotic neutral mercenary fans either love or hate.

Metal Arcade: Jason Bakker writes:
Despite its repetitive gameplay, Deadpool stands out with its stellar comedy writing and craziness.
Deadpool is one of those characters that people will either love or hate. There really is no in-between. The fourth-wall breaking Merc With A Mouth tends to spout offensive nonsense and often finds himself in completely insane situations, even for a comic book character. Thats what makes him so special, though watching Deadpool make an ass of himself and poke fun at the sullen, stoic heroes around him (like Wolverine and Cable) will crack you up, and his juvenile nature is what makes his character memorable. High Moon Studios definitely gets the character, and Deadpool the game is overflowing with vulgarity, callousness and hilarity. The deranged humor (brought to life by veteran voice actor Nolan North) is what makes Deadpool worth playing, but luckily theres a decent game underneath it all as well.

Gaming Age: "High Moon Studios takes a hard to define Marvel property with everyone's favorite Merc' with a Mouth, and delivers a decent game for comic book fans."
