State of Decay starts you off similarly to most zombie filled games, dead smack in the middle of things. You begin your venture as a survivor named Marcus and are soon introduced to a world ravaged by the undead. The game makes quick work of introducing you to other characters, the nature of banding together, and working to survive. To be honest, the amount of things you are immediately introduced to can be a bit overwhelming. I know I sure was. You learn quickly that fighting zombies isnt necessarily your best option. Although zombies may be slow-moving and wont make you turn on the first bite, getting battered up as you run around the map can have deathly consequences.

Named, the fastest selling Xbox live arcade game of all time, State of Decay. This open-world, zombie survival RPG first released on the Xbox Live's Arcade games on June 5, 2013. The arcade zombie game has over 500,000 downloads! Make notice that this was a test run from Undead Labs to see if this is the type of game the community wants to play, and I think we gave them our answer. However, the developers have not announced any production of a game similar to this, or even a sequel, but I think we can expect something great from this team of developers. In the mean time, they have announced a Sandbox Mode will be featured on the game soon to experience the entire open-world without the story line getting in the way. A PC version of the game has been announced, but no release date has been followed up on yet. State Of Decay is Microsofts latest offering on the Xbox Live marketplace, it was developed by Undead Labs and promises to be an open world, zombie killing, fast thinking all shining zombie game. The game market seems to be getting flooded with zombie titles lately and I am guessing its partly due to the success of The Walking Dead series. The developers of State Of Decay have made this game to be played as if it were real life and you had to do everything in your power to survive the hopeless situation humanity finds itself in.

State of Decay presents a type of game that honestly has rarely been tackled before, at least not in this particular way. Its an open world, zombie survival game. Much of the elements of the game are pulled directly from titles like Grand Theft Auto or Day Z, but State of Decay brings plenty of its own ideas to the table. Its a shame, then, that the game fails in so many of the basic areas when it has such fresh and unique ideas for an open-world zombie game.

State of Decay title update 2 has been submitted to Microsoft for certification testing, developer Undead Labs has announced - expect it some time next week, all going to plan. Executive producer Jeff Strain has also released the final patch notes, which I've pasted below.
