Over the past few years, gamers have been graced with a number of fantastic zombie-based games. However, at the same time, weve been pained by some right horrors. Games like Telltales The Walking Dead: The Game, Valves Left 4 Dead series, and Capcoms Dead Rising have brought us hours of entertainment and scores of memorable moments, whereas games such as Dead Island: Riptide and, youve guessed it, The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts have left us with moments wed rather forget. As of late, the zombie genre has been getting a lot of face time. and its becoming ever more difficult to pick out the good from the bad, and the bad from the downright dreadful. State of Decay, the first title from the new kid at school, Undead Labs, is another drop in the quickly filling bucket of zombie games. Undead Labs really had to do something different with this game for it to stand out among the crowd, and something different they did indeed.

Might just be your favourite game of all time.
In some ways it feels like the realisation of a dream – one that’s no doubt been shared by a good chunk of the gaming population. A fully-realised, open-world, zombie survival simulation; one that’s expertly blended with RPG systems, interpersonal relationships and resource management. It’s hardcore, unique, and – in a rarity for these days – single player.
Not that it gets off to the best start. The action begins midway through a scrap with a group of Zeds, as they’re called, with player character Marcus helping another pair of survivors smash in the rotting...

The impressive sales figure makes the zombie survival title the fastest-selling original game ever released on Xbox Live Arcade.
"We're thrilled and humbled that gamers are embracing the game," said Jeff Strain, Undead Labs founder and executive producer at the studio. "Record breaking sales are great, but the thing we're proudest of is that people who bought the game are having a great time playing it. Microsoft hails open-world zombie survival game as "the fastest selling original game" on Xbox Live Arcade.
Open-world zombie survival title has sold over 500,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade since its release two weeks ago, Microsoft has said.
Microsoft adds that State of Decay has become "the fastest selling original game" on XBLA.
Jeff Strain, founder of developer Undead Labs, added that the PC version of State of Decay will be coming to Steam and that the game will be getting its own sandbox mode. "I can tell you we're working on a sandbox mode designed to be a pure survival simulation," he said.
"Beyond that," added Strain, "all I can say is we pay very close attention to what fans of the game are asking for, and their needs will largely guide our development priorities, so stay tuned."
After a broken update previously caused problems, Seattle-based Undead Labs is currently working on State of Decay's second title update, which should shortly be sent off to Microsoft for certification.
