Digimon All-Star Rumble: A Game For No One

Added: 11.12.2014 7:12 | 5 views | 0 comments

Siliconera: Digimon is one of those series in which my interest has fluctuated over time. I was all over it as a kid, dropped it, checked it out when I was older, dropped it again, and so on. Given my history, I was at least curious when I heard about Digimon All-Star Rumble. That, and I do play some fighting games from time to time, and those fully 3D kinds are pretty cool when they rarely happen. I was a little disappointed by the line-up of Digimon (which is rant-inducing on its own, but I will have my rant elsewhere), and the livestream Namco held had seemed somewhat boring but it couldnt possibly be that bad.

Attack of the Fanboy: Filled with a cast that will be familiar to long-time fans of the franchise, Digimon All-Star Rumble offers intriguing battle types that can be fun with friends, but sadly feels like it could have used a good bit more more development time.

Review: Digimon All-Star Rumble (PS3) | PlayStation Nation

PlayStation Nation: Releasing a brawler in the same month as a new Smash Bros. is certainly a bold move. Even if you had a groundbreaking new fighting game with flawless mechanics, stacking it up against Nintendos behemoth is naive. Digimon All-Star Rumble a brand which has been absent from the US and Europe for a decade has arguably been sent on a suicide mission. So, why has this game even been made?

Digimon All-Star Rumble Review Do Not Enter Digimon Fans, Just Dont - COG

Added: 08.12.2014 10:11 | 12 views | 0 comments

COG: "Remember those kids that were crazy for Digimon, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, etc. back when it occupied the TV and also school classrooms for the longest time? Yea, I was one of those kids. Apologizes go out to my mother who had to hear me rant about the shows and also purchase almost all the merchandise each show would produce. Nonetheless, Digimon lingered amongst the popular shows that most still know today (Im looking at you Pokemon). While Digimon has more or less drifted off into the shadows over the years, there have been quite a bit of video games based off the series. Unfortunately, the video games yearned for are not localized in North America and the last one over ten years ago. With that said, I can only imagine Digimon fans were hoping for a strong comeback for the series or at least a worthy spiritual successor."

Digimon All-Star Rumble (PS3) Review - CGM

Added: 07.12.2014 9:14 | 6 views | 0 comments

CGM: "Picture a group of well-dressed corporate types, sitting around the Bandai Namco boardroom discussing the best way to milk a dead property. One of the younger, hipper businessmen pipes up and says, Why dont we just make a game thats like, a combination of the three most popular franchises for the under 14 crowd? The other suits agree, and begin debating just what exactly those three games would be. Eventually, they decide that the best possible option is to make a mashup of Pokemon, Mario, and Super Smash Bros. Unfortunately for Bandai, their attempt to distill what made those games great would be boiled away in the process, leaving a stale, lifeless, and most importantly, boring game that only diehard and underage Digimon fans will enjoy."
