Double Fine has also taken advantage of Kickstarter by telling people that they would make an Adventure game and that is really about it. There are so many projects on these crowdfunding sites that do the same thing and get nothing. There are also so many projects that have fully fleshed out ideas, game trailers and demos that dont get funded either."

In those final days however, the last gasp of LucasArts point and click style of games was born into greatness. Since then, Grim Fandango has largely been lost to memory, existing only in old PC boxes on eBay that dont run on modern PCs or illegal digital downloads laden with viruses. Long had a fan-base, including myself, urged the fine people at Double Fine to attempt to come to a deal with LucasArts to buy the rights.

Tim Schafer, the founder of Double Fine Productions and the first games executive to shed light on the power of crowdfunding, has issued a statement in support of Peter Molyneux.

Molyneux is the last year, and its final second part is at the closing stages of production.

However, Double Fine’s crowdfunding operations haven’t been completely free from controversy. Last year, the studio decommissioned its space station sim Spacebase DF-9 just one year into its planned half decade of ongoing development.

The game was funded through Steam Early Access purchases, but this was not enough investment to justify further development for more than a year, Double Fine said at the time.
