DuckTales Remastered Review - Switch Input

Added: 16.08.2013 22:19 | 6 views | 0 comments

DuckTales was an insanely popular show on the Disney Channel in the 80s and 90s. Instead of Hannah Montana or Wizards of Waverly Place, there was TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, and of course, DuckTales. The adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews seemed video game ready, so Capcom released DuckTales for the NES (along with a stripped-down version for Game Boy) in 1989. It became an instant hit which spawned two more sequels. With DuckTales Remastered, a remake to the NES game on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC, Capcom is hoping to achieve the originals success.

DSOGaming writes: "Capcom has just released the remastered version of DuckTales, so it's time to take a look at its first 15 minutes. DuckTales Remastered is a great remake of the classic platformer, with some gorgeous 2D sprites. This is exactly what remakes should look like, so we've got to congratulate Capcom and Way Forward for delivering what feels like a polished gem, packed with old-school platforming gameplay."

Released in the late 80s on the NES in North America (and the early 90s in Europe/Japan), DuckTales was a memorable part of many childhoods. Its non-linear style of platforming, challenging gameplay and catchy soundtrack helped the game achieve unexpected success thats still recognised to this day.

DuckTales Remastered manages to give a classic game a new coat of paint but still bring back all those warm happy nostalgic feelings from the original classic. There is no attempt to rewrite history (DuckTales, Woo-Ooo!), and DuckTales Remastered is as faithful an remake as fans could have hoped for.

DuckTales Remastered Review (MasonicGamer)

MasonicGamer: I dont blame you for thinking otherwise but not every game based on a licensed property sucks, case in point being the original DuckTales on the NES. Developed then by Capcom, DuckTales was a colourful charming 2D platformer that wasnt particularly complex but to quote the legendary William Shakespeare, brevity is the soul of wit. Basically the quote highlights the quality of being brief and concise which is what the original DuckTales was to me. DuckTales was never intended to be the hardest game on the NES, it wasnt even close to being the longest either but DuckTales was certainly one of the most enjoyable. Whilst many other games at the time were still trying to work out what made gaming fun, DuckTales already knew the answer. It involved smart level design, the minimizing of potential frustration and plenty of pogoing with Scrooge McDucks cane. Whilst many fans of the original game will be quick to label DuckTales as an NES classic (and it is), we...

Drew Leachman writes: I would hope that everyone reading this review has at least heard of DuckTales. If you havent, please minimize this review and go find an episode to watch. Now that youre back from that, let me begin by saying when I was a little kid, I played the DuckTales NES game to death. I absolutely loved it. When WayForward announced that they were remaking the classic title, I did a back flip. My neck is still recovering from the failed attempt, but needless to say, I was really excited. My excitement was not in vain. DuckTales Remastered is an amazing trip back down memory lane.
