Today marks the release of Rare Replay for Xbox One, the affordably priced compilation featuring 30 of the studios video games, including Perfect Dark, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Kazooie and of course, Battletoads. Playing NES games like Cobra Triangle on a Microsoft console is somewhat trippy, but overall, retro fans will spend hours unlocking stamps and reliving their childhoods. Time well spent!

The first version of Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae has a slightly shaky frame rate, but the situation was improved for version 2.0. At Gamescom, Director Hajime Tabata gave an update on how his quest for stable frame rate is proceeding, also hinting to the possibility of a PC version.

According to some new reports, Final Fantasy XV will release no sooner than 2016 and no later than 2017. That window opens up a lot of possibilities for when we can expect to see Square Enix's grand JRPG launch for home consoles, but rest assured that the game director has already promised more news will come soon regarding the release date for the game.

If Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is to be believed, then the next main entry in the JRPG franchise will finally come out in 2016. I'm sure many fans will rejoice at the news, but it's been a long road for the game once known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In the nine years since the game's initial reveal, my interest in the entire franchise has waned considerably. At this point, I don't think I care about Final Fantasy XV.

While it's nice to see how a new generation of developers have been inspired by the games they played as kids, the problem is that many of these new games lack depth and are a dime a dozen. Enter Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria, a JRPG that's been published by the studio responsible for the BIT.TRIP games. While Dragon Fantasy doesn't manage to push the genre forward in any meaningful way, it does provide a rock solid effort that feels straight out of the era it tries so hard to emulate.

Let's be honest, 2015 has been quite a rough year for Final Fantasy fans. Sure, we did get that incredible announcement for Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3, but who know when that game will ever see the light of day. Heck, we'll be lucky if we see even a sliver of gameplay footage in 2017.
