The importance of a good antagonist Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII

EL writes: "For this post, I thought I would share with out what I think is one of the best antagonists I have ever seen in a book / movie / video game. And, strangely enough, he doesnt come from the written page, but from the screen of a video game. Back in 1997 (good god, almost 20 years ago, time does fly), I picked up my first ever Final Fantasy game. It was Final Fantasy VII and I still think its the best game of the franchise (Final Fantasy X comes a close second, but will never dethrone it for me). It had managed to create a rich and complex world and told a compelling story with interesting characters. But what makes this story so awesome is the presence of the main antagonist Sephiroth."

If you wanted a classic Final Fantasy experience, this was the game to get, but among the other main numbered games in the series it does seems to be forgotten a fair bit. Perhaps due to it living in the shadows of VII and VIII, or that it was released right at the end of the PS1s natural lifecycle. Either way, despite smaller sales figures than the two games that came before, Final Fantasy IX still has some very dedicated fans, some who even claim that this is the best game in the series.
So in honor of Final Fantasy IXs 15th Anniversary, here are 15 reasons why you should go back and play this PlayStation One classic.

| Final Thoughts - Final Fantasy X

RPGfan: In many ways, it is difficult to divorce the cultural impact of Final Fantasy X from any of my personal thoughts on the quality of the game. When FFX was released for the PS2 in 2001, it revolutionized the RPG genre. Beyond Pokemon, FFX was my introduction to the RPG genre, so my nostalgia for the game is immense. But to my shame, as an easily distracted kid, I only played enough to see the end of Tidus and Yuna's pilgrimage. Therefore, it was with great excitement that I started my playthough for Retro Encounter.
