Gaming Union: "While other new franchises from this generation may be able to compete in the critical stakes, when it comes to sheer volume the Assassins Creed franchise is in a league of its own. With Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag were at the point where the franchise has seen six main-series entries and five spin-off titles on various other platforms since the original Assassins Creed appeared in 2007. Some might see this as a concerning statistic, but with this latest instalment Ubisoft has yet again set down a marker in terms of quality."

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag is not only the best game of the series, but it might be the best pirate game. It still retains many of the bugs and annoyances thats plagued its predecessors whilst the story is a little cliched and uninspiring. Despite those negating factors youll still gleefully accept the role youre asked to undertake, especially in a setting thats so entertaining and one thats backed up with such impeccable presentation to boot. For those with an aversion to random bouts of swashbuckling, and/or having their timbers shivered, its probably best avoided. For everyone else, its time to set sail.

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, the newest entry in one of gamings most beloved franchises, is certainly one of the years best titles one that makes an earnest effort at truly capturing a sense of adventure, while weaving a narrative that despite being far from perfect, builds upon the thrilling sensibilities of a pirates life.

Swashbuckling, burying treasure, and pillaging villages werent exactly the daily routine for pirates in the early 18th century. Their lives were a mixture of fiery moments of adrenaline-fueled excitement, buffered by long stretches dominated by repetitive tasks like hoisting sails, swabbing decks, and cooking. In that, Ubisoft has captured the pirate lifestyle admirably with Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag.
