Added: 19.08.2015 16:18 | 15 views | 0 comments

Taylor at GameSpew writes: "Some genres just never die. Thats not to say some shouldnt a wizened sage once prophesied the demise of the dating sim, but unfortunately this has yet come to pass. Nevertheless, the side scrolling shootem up, also known as the shmup, has been steadfastly plugging along. With the help of Kickstarter, independent Brazilian developers Cyber Rhino Studios are attempting to bring the shmup back to its former glory in the form of Gryphon Knight Epic, although they might be overcompensating with that title."

Celestian Tales: Old North Review | GameSpew

Added: 19.08.2015 15:18 | 15 views | 0 comments

Rich at GameSpew writes: "Forgoing the clichéd boy saves world storyline in favour of something more grounded in reality, Celestian Tales: Old North is a JRPG that attempts to stand out from the crowd. Luckily for its developer, Ekuator Games, the gambit pays off, and matched with high production values and old school feel this is quite possibly the best traditional RPG Ive played in recent years. What first strikes you as you begin to play Celestian Tales is just how beautiful it looks. Environments have that classic 2D RPG look but are superbly created and are resplendent with detail; creating a sense of nostalgia yet impressing with their crisp clarity. Characters are similarly impressive, with each member of your party having their own unique and charming appearance. Even more beautiful than the visuals however is the sumptuous soundtrack that accompanies the game; each track marries the location or situation you are in perfectly. In fact, I found the whole audio-visual ex...

Dirt Rally - Early Access Review | GameSpew

Added: 18.08.2015 17:18 | 27 views | 0 comments

Rich at GameSpew writes: "Started in 1998, the Colin McRae Rally series by Codemasters was a pioneer of the realistic rally simulator genre, driving itself to both great critical and commercial success. Developed with the help of the titular Colin McRae, who sadly passed away in 2007, the series saw its name changed to Dirt in the same year, a move made maybe to reflect the inclusion of a whole host of alternative rally categories such as Raid and Hillclimb. Dirt 2 introduced even more event categories thrown into the mix, but it was Dirt 3s inclusion of a gymkhana mode that pushed many long term fans over the edge, feeling that the series had strayed too far from its rally sim roots."

Sony Details Press Conference Plans for Paris Games Week

Added: 18.08.2015 16:00 | 36 views | 0 comments

Paris Games Week kicks off in... well... Paris, France this October, and the PlayStation manufacturer will be holding a media briefing at the expo.

Sony has started sending out invites to select members of the press, detailing its "PlayStation Media Preview," which will air on Jeux Video on October 27 at 5 PM UK time, 9 AM PT. Here's a look at the invite that was sent to GameSpot (I'm still furiously refreshing my email inbox in the hopes of receiving one myself!).

Sadly, Sony offered no hint as to what it will be showing, but that isn't going to stop us from speculating what the house of PlayStation may have in store for fans. Seeing as how the event takes place in France, in incredibly close proximity to Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream, perhaps we'll get a glimpse at its new project.

GameSpew has decided to count down our top 10 most underrated games consoles and hopefully give some of these systems the love they deserve."

Beyond Eyes Review | GameSpew

Added: 17.08.2015 13:18 | 59 views | 0 comments

Rich at GameSpew writes: "Bored and depressed. Thats how I felt after the three hours it took me to complete this admittedly pretty and unique adventure. The fact that I was depressed is probably a good thing, as it shows that the game at least made an emotional impact, but the boredom? Well, theres no excuse for that. Developed by Tiger Squid, a one girl game studio founded by Sherida Halatoe, Beyond Eyes has you taking control of Rae a young, blind girl that is at a loss after the disappearance of her pet cat Nani. Despite her impairment, she gathers up the courage to leave the safe confines of her yard in order to hopefully be reunited with her beloved feline, embarking on a short journey of discovery and peril."

Abducted: Early Access Preview | GameSpew

Added: 17.08.2015 12:18 | 12 views | 0 comments

Alastair at GameSpew writes: "Abducted is a point and click sci-fi adventure that parachutes you into a hostile and unfamiliar world. Getting abducted by aliens is the oldest story in the book, but its a narrative that hasnt been explored very often in video games. Originally developed for iOS, Sunside Inc. is attempting to upgrade the experience for PC gamers. Considering its called Abducted I was hoping to play through an actual alien abduction: I expected spotlights, low-flying UFOs and anal probes. Story-wise however, the game is all about what happens after abduction. The Early Access release features an unfinished single player story mode and, in what might be a nod to Ripley in Alien, the playable characters are all women. Any comparison with the films pretty much ends there though because at this stage the game doesnt do a great job of putting you on the edge of your seat."
