Added: 07.09.2015 15:18 | 9 views | 0 comments

MyGaming: "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the hottest game right now, and for good reason. Hideo Kojima has done exactly what he initially promised and crafted the ultimate Metal Gear experience. So with over 3 million units sold globally in less than a week, its hard to consider Kojimas swansong anything but a success, particularly if you enjoy Kojimas oddball humour."

Guilt, Shame, And Quiet: Women In 'Metal Gear Solid'

Forbes: Everyones afraid of Quiet. When she arrives on Mother Base in the early parts of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, soldiers glare at her unfamiliar face, suspecting the sniper whod tried to kill their leader shouldnt be trusted. And she is different, nearly naked in ripped nylons, a thong, bikini top, and burdened with a giant sniper rifle. In nearly every scene shes in, the camera roams over her torso, breasts, and buttocks before its operator remembers she has a face. As often happens with jarringly anatomical women in videogames, Quiets sexualization doesnt seem to be acknowledged by anyone in the game world. She has no expressed libido, nor do any of the games bumblingly inelegant men. The closest thing to erotics come in the small gestures of homoerotic kink that appear between Big Boss and his conscripts. When you approach one from behind and put him in a chokehold for interrogation, he might thank you and ask to be choked harder. In 2013, Hideo Kojima...

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain lands Konami their first No1 of the year - UK Charts

MCV: Konamis Metal Gear Solid V debuts at the top of the charts this week, but it failed the beat the Week One sales of both the Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher III. It is also the best-selling week one for the series so far, beating the sales of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty by 37 per cent. The PlayStation 4 SKU was the best-selling edition, claiming 72 per cent of all sales, while the Xbox One SKU claimed 22 per cent. Meanwhile, the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions formed only five per cent of the stealth titles sales overall. Warner Bros Mad Max debuts in second place, while Gears of War: Ultimate Edition falls to No.3 with a 64 per cent drop in sales.

The Phantom Pains open-world shift is a massive risk for Metal Gear Solid, but it pays off

Gaetano Prestia of MMGN writes: Prior to the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Id played the game for almost two hours at various events. Each time the hosts would give us a rundown of the basics and then essentially let us roam free to do whatever we wanted, however we wanted. Heres a little insight into video game preview events: that sort of flexibility and freedom is rare. In hindsight, it certainly suited the style and design of The Phantom Pain, a game that loudly distances itself from the linearity and at-times overbearing narrative drive of its predecessors. Since the games release Ive put in roughly 20 hours, and find myself a mere 12 percent through. Reflecting upon my many mindless playthroughs of the game so far, it had me thinking about the games place within the open-world genre. Does an open-world suit Metal Gear Solid, and is The Phantom Pain really among the genres best?

Geek Bravado: I hope Supermassive gets another chance to make something like this from scratch as theyre clearly onto something. They just need to work on the polish and making sure all the loose ends are tied up. Good effort guys, keep trying. If youre not sure this is the kind of experience you want though, you may not be into this for full price.
