Call of Juarez: Gunslinger XBLA hands-on - Techland's old Western shooter bounces back | OXM UK

Added: 23.04.2013 17:18 | 12 views | 0 comments

OXM UK: "Now here's a series that's seen better days. Better decades, even. Last year's Old-West-meets-gangland-Mexico effort The Cartel was a hangover of a game, born of a wish to stretch the original's cowboy antics into something as sophisticated as a Red Dead Redemption. Thankfully, the series' XBLA debut is a humbler, less compromised shooter - a therapeutic mid-morning fry-up, if you will, which puts the emphasis squarely on blasting pop-up varmints in stylish ways."

Just be glad Ive not been watching Deadwood, or you wouldnt be comfortable showing this preview to grandmothers or children."

GamesBeat: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger doesnt do the Wild West justice (preview)

Its a shame that Call of Juarez: Gunslinger comes across as a lesser effort, particularly since some of the writing has bounce. You just need more than six-shooters and saddlebags to make a western. You need the spirit of independence. Without it, you have a horse opera thats missing its soul and thats something you can leave behind on the dusty trail.
