Interview: Human Orbit wont let the God Game remain (space) stationary.

Continue Play's Dale Morgan sits down for an in-depth chat with Autelia Ltd - a new studio working on Human Orbit, a procedurally-generated God-game sandbox with a twist. Casting players as an AI trapped inside the confines of a droid the size of a grapefruit, in Human Orbit you're forced to enact your will by issuing orders to station systems and intercepting emails rather than waving a magic wand. You're given the freedom to decide for yourself what fate befalls your surroundings. IF you can get the crew to act like you want them to. Autelia is seeking to break new ground and encourage the industry to make advances in AI. Using personality models used by actual Psychological professionals to craft its NPCs, an open-ended design, and forcing players to manipulate their environment by setting up chains of events rather than interacting directly, Human Orbit looks like it could be the kick up the backside the game industry needs to take AI seriously.

At PAX Australia, Bethesda Softworks vice president, Pete Hines, confirmed that Prey 2 has been officially cancelled. Hines stated the following regarding Prey 2's cancellation: It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be we never saw a path to success if we finished it. It wasnt up to our quality standard, and we decided to cancel it. Its no longer in development. That wasnt an easy decision, but its one that wont surprise many folks given that we hadnt been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. Its a franchise we still believe we can do something with we just need to see what that something is.

Marcus Estrada writes: "Human nature is prone to many things. When we are told to conform there are certain people who do as theyre told and those who lash out against said restrictions. In real life, many of us fall into the former category to some degree. Its only within video games that we truly unleash ourselves - its safe to do so in the virtual world. But what happens when a video game is focused entirely around the concept of following orders? OBEY is that game, and it tackles this topic with surprising glee."
