You may have been used to seeing Square Enix bringing Call of Duty games to Japan, but this time Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia and Microsoft have decided to take matters into their own hands and publish Call of Duty: Black Ops III for the PS4/PS3 and for Xbox One/Xbox 360 respectively in the archipelago on the rising sun.

While you may not think of Square Enix and Call of Duty in the same sentence, Square Enix has publishing Call of Duty games in Japan since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Activison and Square Enixs partnership extended to bring over Blur, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark and Skylanders: Spryos Adventure. This year, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia is handling Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The Japanese version will include an option for dubbed Japanese voices and subtitles on one disc. This is different from Square Enixs Call of Duty releases which are sold as two different versions, subtitled and dubbed.

NL: Looking back now, I realise that growing up in Wakefield (West Yorkshire, England) was a blessing; there was a really great import scene, some fantastic arcades and me and my mates thought nothing of having the latest Japanese games. Edge: Over the past decade, many of Square Enixs best-known designers have left the company and none more high profile than Hironobu Sakaguchi. He joined Square in 1983 as a part-time designer, going on to become its director of planning and development, and ultimately its US president.
