FG: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review

FG: The Call of Juarez series has been genuinely up and down. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, was the first title in the franchise to make it to the PS3 and it was thoroughly entertaining. 2011's follow-up title, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, moved away from the Wild West and was extremely disappointing, failing to build on Bound in Blood in any meaningful way. The good news then is that Gunslinger moves the series back to its Wild West roots, and is much more Bound in Blood than it is The Cartel. Is it worth checking out?

Analog Addiction writes: "Since the incredibly popular open-world Western title Red Dead Redemption released in May 2010, there have not been many games set in the wild wild west during the 1800s. Even before then, Western titles were as barren as the deserts the games are often set in. In 2006, the Call of Juarez series spawned with its first game for the PC where it and was later ported to the Xbox 360 in 2007. While they are not necessarily the most critically acclaimed or incredibly popular titles, many who have played the games have found them to be enjoyable experiences, myself included."

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review | DarkStation

DarkStation: "Call of Juarez Gunslinger is Techland at their best and the most fun I have had with a western experience since Red Dead Redemption. Its kind of a shame to know that their A team was working on this while Dead Island Riptide was thrown together but Im grateful that Gunslinger exists because its a solid and fun first person shooter with some great hooks in it. Techland has shown that with a small downloadable title they can shine with the best and I can only hope that this game will serve as a template for the next proper Call of Juarez game because what theyve done here is working and I would love to see it blown up to a full retail game. For fifteen dollars you cant go wrong with Gunslinger."

With Techlands elephant in the room that was The Cartel, the Call of Juarez series has fallen into dire straits with respect to delivering solid ideas paired with questionable design choices.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Review: Back to the Wild West | IRB Gamer

IRB Gamer:"I may have had doubts coming into Gunslinger. The last Call of Juarez may have left me hesitant to play Gunslinger, but I was amazed on how much there was to it. The gunplay was fast-pace and tense delivering fun all throughout the story. There are neat little collectables that you can collect that gives you actual info on outlaws and western topics. And the Arcade and Duels mode are surprisingly enjoyable to where youll be coming back again and again. Call of Juarez may not be the best FPS on the market, but youll want to check this one out."
