Watch Dogs producer: next generation games can't just be about pretty visuals

Added: 18.03.2013 17:23 | 9 views | 0 comments

"You have to have a fresh and innovative design.".
My god, the news. WHERE IS THE NEWS? Save for this morning's Gears of War: Judgment review, Xbox-flavoured happenings are decidedly thin on the ground right now. Why, I almost found myself writing a news piece about the Walking Dead: Survival Instinct - a game we've yet to receive review code for, which goes on sale tomorrow, and is thus, in all probability, rubbish.

Gears of War: Judgment Review | Cheat Code Central

Cheat Code Central: "Judgment is literally as much fun as Gears of War 2. It doesnt have this scope or severity one and three had, but it operates on a grand scale. I, for one, couldnt be happier."

Gears of War: Judgment Review | Gamereactor UK

GR-UK writes: "And that's what Judgment feels tailored towards: the social. These tweaks suggest it is less about introducing new players to the franchise, and more the chance of one last get-together for those of us that have been with the series since the beginning. People Can Fly know exactly who's coming to the party."

3D:Judgment is not at all a bad game, but it is one that is somewhat away from the quality standards to which we were accustomed.

Gears of War: Judgment ably demonstrates what happens when a billion-dollar, triple-A franchise goes to the well once too often with too few ideas in its arsenal.

Gears of War: Judgment Review | GodisaGeek

Added: 18.03.2013 15:18 | 2 views | 0 comments

GodisaGeek: "Setting Judgment in the past has allowed the team to experiment with an engaging new story-telling technique, and to give players some interesting choices that allow them to play the game the way they want to play it resulting in a game that feels more unique to the individual. They may have made a few changes, which some gamers might not entirely appreciate, but a lot of these changes seem like a natural evolution rather than a forced one. Thankfully this doesnt feel at all like a game that has been farmed out to a third-party developer, but rather an integral part of the Gears of War canon."

LazyGamer: "While Gears of War: Judgment is perhaps burdened by the pall of over-familiarity, the changes that developer People Can Fly have implemented are enough, for now, to keep it feeling fresh and certainly worthy of your time."

Gears of War: Judgment Review (Strategy Informer)

Added: 18.03.2013 12:18 | 5 views | 0 comments

From Strategyinformer.com: "Exuding the kind of confidence that one would expect from such overtly muscular soldiers, Gears of War: Judgment might not tell the finest story out there, nor offer the most original of multiplayer modes, but somehow, none of that really matters when the Lancers have warmed up and the action is flowing. Predictably, for a prequel, it won't convert naysayers but fans of the series will appreciate an extra dose".

Review: Gears of War: Judgment (Xbox 360)

A stopgap, but a good one.

Gears games always look good, but even by the series' own standards Judgment is an especially good-looking bit of work, although the 'destroyed beauty' aesthetic feels somewhat overdone now. The characters look more human too. They're still hulking colossi (it wouldn't be Gears if the characters weren't on the juice), but they don't look quite so much like they were fashioned in clay by a drunk that's watched too much WWE this time around.

Judgment is a much more low-key affair than its predecessors. It's a prequel focusing on the exploits of Augustus Cole and Damon Baird,...
