SOMA: The Kotaku Review

Kotaku:
Though jump scares are fun in the moment, they dont last. The best horror sticks with you long after the credits roll, an uneasy feeling that lingers uncomfortably in the moments before you fall asleep. Ive been thinking about what happened in SOMA for days now, especially the games closing minutes, and cant let it go. Just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach. If thats not a sign of success, Im not sure what is.

Kotaku:
"The longer a game is, the harder it is to end it. The more sprawling the cast, the trickier it is to give its actors closure. The looser the dangling plot threads, the tougher to tie them up."

Josiah also learns quite a bit about fantasy eSports, which is totally a thing."

Kotaku:
"Theres a cutscene, late in Metal Gear Solid V, thats ostensibly serious but contains a musical interlude so awkward it sent me into giggle fits. A dozen missions later, theres a harrowing sequence that ranks among the best video game scenes Ive ever played. If you dont know how to reconcile those two things, then, well, you probably havent played Metal Gear Solid."

Kotaku:
Still, theres one thing about Devils Third that does fit. Its name derives from the devils interval, a musical term describing an atonal three-note sequence designed to provoke a sense of unease in the listener in other words, a series of familiar elements combining to make something unnatural. Itagaki and Valhalla might not have got much else right, but they could hardly have come up with a more perfect title.
