All I Really Need to Know I Learned From Playing LucasArts Games

Added: 07.04.2013 13:18 | 8 views | 0 comments

Kotaku - I used to look forward to getting the company catalogue, The Adventurer, in the mail. I knew all the sword-fighting insults by heart. Sam and Max taught me to love words. Hell, I even got made fun of by crappy playground bullies for publishing a positive review of Day of the Tentacle in the 4th grade paper (Pshh, trolls).

LucasArts: A Geekenstein Staff Retrospective

Added: 07.04.2013 13:18 | 8 views | 0 comments

"The stream of Star Wars games ended with the advent of the current generation, during which LucasArts published far fewer titles, the most notable of which was the ambitious, but ultimately flawed The Force Unleashed. However, LucasArts was just on the way back into the spotlight, with its announcement of Star Wars 1313, a game set in the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe, and Star Wars First Assault, a spiritual successor to the beloved Battlefront franchise. Both of these games showed promise, but we never got the chance to see them completed. Unfortunately, this revival was cut short when Disney shut down the game development side of LucasArts in favor of licensing out the Star Wars franchise to other developers. But what does this closure mean for gamers? Here to discuss their history with the company and what they think its closure will mean to the industry as a whole are some of Geekensteins phenomenal founders, editors, and contributors." - Jake Petersen of Gee...

LucasArts Closed Was It Really That Big Of A Loss?

Added: 06.04.2013 14:18 | 1 views | 0 comments

Before we really get going on this subject lets make a few things clear: LucasArts being closed by Disney is something tragic. As is the potential loss of Star Wars 1313 (even if it was going to be about Boba Fett after all), First Assault and other titles. It has put a lot of talented people out of their jobs who deserve to be working on games. Because of this licences like Grim Fandango are even less likely to see any future instalments. This article is not questioning any of these things or trying to argue this is a good thing, what its asking is this: Was the LucasArts which was shut down the same one beloved by fans?

Added: 06.04.2013 9:18 | 1 views | 0 comments

As most of you are probably already aware, Disney made the decision to shut down a large portion of LucasArts, firing roughly 150 employees and disarming their development capabilities. There is an astonishing quantity of non-factual information and emotional rhetoric washing over the web right now about this, so its time to take a breath, sit back, and look at things objectively.
