Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Review | Saving Content

Excerpt: "Interaction is kept to a minimum, only allowing you to play with switches, some drawers, chairs, and lights. The puzzles that prevent you from progressing, are straightforward and present very little challenge to complete. It is insulting to anyones intelligence when the answer to a puzzle is finding an item and plugging it into the slot that it came from. But theres a certain pleasure of pulling away a painting to reveal a switch that reveals a hidden passageway. Amnesia isnt broken, or even buggy. But what it is, is a convoluted mess of a story that does little to fill you in unless you explore every nook and cranny for exposition. Even then, you may not have answers for the questions you seek. There are plenty of scares, but in great moderation from what youd expect. A Machine For Pigs short run time of only 4 hours, and confusing ending will leave you thinking you had amnesia."

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs Review | GIZORAMA

Added: 09.09.2013 18:18 | 7 views | 0 comments

GIZORAMA - What is it, exactly, that makes a game scary? The lack of ability to defend yourself? Threatening, uncomfortable environments? An unreliable narrator? Some combination thereof? No matter what your criteria for a game being classified as horror, many gamers agreed that 2010s Amnesia: The Dark Descent, produced by Frictional Games (developers of the cult favorite Penumbria series of horror adventures) was one of the most terrifying games in recent memory, due to your inability to fight back against any encountered monsters and a sanity meter not unlike Eternal Darkness that affected your characters ability to determine reality from hallucination. Originally announced by fellow indie developers The Chinese Room (creators of stellar Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 mods such as Dear Esther and Conscientious Objector, respectively) as a small add-on, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs eventually ballooned into a full-size semi-sequel, carrying with it many similar gameplay aspects witho...

GI:Two years ago, Frictional Games delivered a first-person horror game called Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The moody corridor crawler tasked players with lighting the way via a lantern and scattered lamps while evading terrible creatures lurking in the shadows. The Dark Descent ignored combat altogether, instead asking players to run and hide when discovered by a monster. The tense and unforgettable game has given rise to a new wave of combat free, first-person horror games. The Chinese Room (Dear Esther) is up to bat for this sequel to the trend-setting original. The Dark Descents flight over fight formula was effective, but A Machine for Pigs doesnt throw in enough threats to keep players on the edge of their seat throughout.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs Review | GodisaGeek

Added: 09.09.2013 15:18 | 6 views | 0 comments

GodisaGeek: "A Machine for Pigs achieves exactly what it sets out to do, and weaves an interesting and engaging narrative around a core of pure terror. It has some shortcomings, and fans of the original may be slightly disappointed with the removal of certain features, but the game is still terrifying, immersive and well crafted. Its a shame, but there are some missed opportunities here that may haunt the developers, like the evil in the great machine they gave life to."
