The hardest difficulty mode in Wolfenstein: The New Order--called I Am Death Incarnate--will be a daunting task, senior gameplay designer at Machine Games Andreas Ojerfors has told GameSpot.
"You will cry blood," he said.
Machine Games wants to make Wolfenstein: The New Order a challenge for gamers of every skill level. They say that the highest difficulty level, I Am Death Incarnate, will give even the most elite gamers a headache.
Senior gameplay designer says I Am Death Incarnate difficulty option in upcoming Wolfenstein: The New Order will be no easy task.
The hardest difficulty mode in --called I Am Death Incarnate--will be a daunting task, senior gameplay designer at Machine Games Andreas Öjerfors has told GameSpot.
"You will cry blood," he said.
Wolfenstein: The New Order was designed with advanced difficulty in mind, Öjerfors explained, noting that game will sport five difficulty levels, just like the original game.
"We want it to be a real, real challenge for people. This is not an easy game," Öjerfors said. "Of course we have the five difficulty levels of the original Wolfenstein 3D, like everything from Daddy Can I Play? to I Am Death Incarnate. So you can turn it down or turn it up if you want to. But like the default, normal setting of the game, it's going to be a challenging experience."
Öjerfors explained that though the game is aimed at challenging players, the experience was also designed to be fair.
"It's difficult, but it's always fair," Öjerfors said. "You're never really cheated. It's always your fault if you die."
Wolfenstein: The New Order launches for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC later this year.
Publisher says it never pushed Machine Games to include a multiplayer component in upcoming shooter.
Some fans may have been miffed to learn the upcoming first-person shooter , but according to Bethesda, such a mode didn't fit in with Machine Games' creative vision for the game.
"We talked to Machine Games about the game they wanted to make and multiplayer wasn't in their thought process," Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines told .
He explained that just because past games in the Wolfenstein series did include multiplayer, that doesn't mean all entries must.
"We're not going to force it down their throats and say, 'Well, the last games did, so you have to do it.' These guys do cool stuff," Hines said. "If you look at The Chronicles of Riddick or you look at The Darkness, those games have a creative element to them that is similar to the things they're doing in Wolfenstein and that's what attracted us to them, and that's what attracted us to their vision of Wolfenstein."
"And we said 'Okay, run with that.' We're not going to say, 'Oh, we'll find somebody else to do the multiplayer.'"
Bethesda is no stranger to publishing high-profile single-player-only games. The studio is also behind franchises like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dishonored.
