What Gamers Want for the Week of 9-7-15: New Video Game Releases

Added: 07.09.2015 2:19 | 19 views | 0 comments

EB: Consider this week a slight break in the fall AAA video game release rush for 2015, but dont write it off as a bad week of releases altogether, because there are still a few worth looking into. The most notable new video game release is definitely Super Mario Maker for the Wii U, which ships on the 11th. Although, both Tearaway Unfolded and Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time are two titles to consider as well, not to mention Dropsy may be worth experiencing too. You can also try a few titles on new platforms, or even a remaster of Castle Crashers for the Xbox One.

NL: 2005 was a busy year in terms of Mario releases, with a whole host of options across portable and home console systems, all in the form of spin-offs or alternative franchises featuring the mascot. Looking over the available titles we decided that Mario Kart DS couldn't be ignored, as it was a vital game in the IP's history.

NL: We never had an NES when I was growing up. It wasn't until the Game Boy Color that I got my first taste of owning some of that Nintendo magic. The Nintendo 64 was our first foray into Nintendo home consoles. That's not to say that I didn't play the NES or SNES growing up. My cousins and friends had the consoles and would show off their spectacular new games every time I went to visit. Every Mario game under the sun was tossed into those systems each time I was around.

Mario History: New Super Mario Bros. - 2006

NL: Assessing 2D Mario games in the 'New' series in 2015 naturally features arguments of repetition, frequency of releases and some calls for fresh ideas. Those debates and points were particularly voluble in 2012, which brought us both New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS and New Super Mario Bros. U as a Wii U launch title. For some, there was just too much 2D Mario at one time.

Mario History: Super Mario Galaxy - 2007

Added: 07.09.2015 1:17 | 20 views | 0 comments

NL: In our previous entry we highlighted how New Super Mario Bros. was the first new 2D Mario title in some time; that was due to a general focus on 3D Mario gaming. From the DS / Wii era onwards it's the 2D games that have been greater commercial successes, yet when considering critical acclaim from gamers it was the Wii's 3D Mario debut that truly set the bar to new heights. Super Mario Galaxy is considered by some to be among the greatest video games of all time.
