54% attributed to digital via Origin and other download services.

This year's game is also the biggest SimCity launch of all time.

Furthermore, EA revealed that approximately 44 per cent of all sales were recorded via Origin, plus an additional 10 per cent via other digital services.

"SimCity had a great weekend with sales strong across both North America and Europe, adding to overwhelming demand at launch that has us tracking well beyond expectations for the game," said Peter Moore, chief operating officer for EA. "SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online...

SimCity Review | Digital Chumps

Added: 19.03.2013 2:18 | 3 views | 0 comments

Digital Chumps: "SimCity is going to go down as a 'what couldve been.' What could this title have been if the developers (and publisher) werent so adamant about the always-online business? How good would it have been if the size limitations werent so stringent, instead, allowing players to build sprawling cities that could be seen from space? How good would this game be if the silly AI issues concerning sim behavior and vehicular pathfinding were much improved? How much would the backlash decrease if players had an option to save their cities on their own computers, instead of relying on a server to keep it safe, and said server isnt accessible, thanks to bumrush of players trying to logon? Perhaps these are all common sense questions (and solutions), but apparently, these aspects were either willfully, or accidentally ignored by Maxis and EA, and the final product, one that has so much potential, is suffering for it."

EA Maxis Gifting Free Offline SimCity Game After Server Launch Meltdown

Added: 18.03.2013 22:18 | 7 views | 0 comments

Forbes - Electronic Arts is offering patient SimCity mayors who have stuck with EA Maxis through thick and thin (not that retailers allow you to return PC games these days) with a selection of free digital games. One of those games is none other than SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, an offline, DRM-free game that doesnt force players to remain online to play single player. Its a bit ironic that EA is offering this game to fans who have been begging for the game developer to deliver an offline experience for the new SimCity 5 game (EA gave up on numbers with this latest sequel). SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, which retails for $20 on Steam, comes with SimCity 4 and the Rush Hour expansion. These games date back to 2003, long before DRM was something that publishers resorted to as a must-have for PC games like Blizzard Entertainments Diablo III. So gamers are getting an offline SimCity experience, but missing out on over a decade of technological advances and the new Glassbox engine.

Maxis Reveals Which Free Games Will Make You Forget About Crappy DRM

Free stuff? Did someone say free stuff? The irrational consumer wins again! That's right suckers! You wish you paid $60 for a broken mess and got a game that'll probably only cost $20 when... Alright, this is a sham. I'm only pretending NOT to feel hurt about this whole SimCity thing.

SimCity sells 1.1 million in two weeks

Added: 18.03.2013 17:40 | 3 views | 0 comments

Despite launch marred by various server issues, EA's latest city-building game is "biggest SimCity launch of all time."

March 5, publisher Electronic Arts announced today. Sales at that level make this year's entry the "biggest SimCity launch of all time."

Of the 1.1 million SimCity sales, about 54 percent were digital copies purchased through Origin or other download services, EA said. Origin digital sales alone made up 44 percent of all copies purchased.

"SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age," EA chief operating officer Peter Moore said in a statement.

Some may contest that claim, as during the game's North American and European launches earlier this month.

As recompense for SimCity's hobbled launch, EA .

SimCity's arrival helped Origin set a new record for peak concurrent users at 1.3 million "and rising," according to EA. By comparison, competitor Valve's Steam service has 4.8 million concurrent players and a peak concurrent userbase of 5.7 million.

EA also revealed several other SimCity statistics for the game's first two weeks. Since launch, players have logged more than 15 million hours of online gameplay and built more than 5.7 million original cities. In all, players have created 780 million buildings and SimCity mayors together have built enough road and railroad tracks to circle the globe 40,000 times, EA said.

SimCity will launch on Mac later this year. For more, check out .

News: Maxis admits SimCity could have offered offline mode

Added: 18.03.2013 9:27 | 10 views | 0 comments

Players discover code which forces the game to shut down when playing offline.

"I hate to disturb you when you're playing SimCity, but I'd like to offer some straight answers on the topic: Always-Connected and why SimCity is not an offline experience," wrote Bradshaw in a post titled Straight answers from Lucy.

Bradshaw continued: "Always-Connected is a big change from SimCities of the past. It didn't come down as an order from corporate and it isn't a clandestine strategy to control players. It's fundamental to the vision we had for this SimCity. From the ground up, we designed this game with multiplayer in mind – using new technology to realise a vision...

EA censors its own support number on its forums

Added: 16.03.2013 22:18 | 3 views | 0 comments

If nobody calls, it must mean nobody has any complaints! "EA's SimCity saga has provided no shortage of comedy. Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw just yesterday proudly announced that the company is "hearing from thousands of people who are playing across regions, trading, communicating and loving the Always-Connected functionality." Surely EA must be receiving a mountain of complaints as well, unless it somehow found a way to prevent customers from even contacting the support team. Hmmm..."
