August is convention mayhem, what with gamescom in Germany and PAX Prime about to start at the end of the month. So publishers are far too occupied with advertising their games to release any of them, though the end of the month would seem to be the start of the official holiday season. (It just gets longer and longer.)

For this first week of August, we've got Microsoft knocking on our door with Rare Replay, a fantastic collection of hits from Rare which I hope spurs the developer to create something awesome and original for modern times (eventually).

It's uncommon to be impressed by a Gamescom press conference, but Microsoft defied all odds today when it took the stage in Cologne, Germany. Within just an hour more than a dozen games were shown off backed by meaningful announcements. It was fast-paced to a point where some spectators had trouble keeping up with all the information.

EB: Microsoft has released a new batch of Crackdown 3 screenshots to compliment its Gamescom showing. The new screens are explosive to say the least, and while a few arent that impressive looking, I mean, it looks like someone took a picture of a monitor in some, there are a few that offer much promise. It appears the cel-shaded visual style is still in place, but the characters now look a bit closer to the animation style featured in a Pixar movie such as The Incredibles.

Microsoft showed off the first gameplay video for Crackdown 3 at their gamescom 2015 press conference today. Although the footage is from a pre-alpha build of the Xbox One exclusive, it's still seriously impressive.
