Microsoft will make a number of Xbox One announcements at the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off 19th September and runs till the 22nd. Alas, it seems a new first-party Japanese role-playing game won't be among the offerings. Woe unto the disciples of Blue Dragon. Woe unto the followers of Lost Odyssey.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl Review | GIZORAMA

Added: 30.08.2013 21:18 | 14 views | 0 comments

GIZORAMA - To the untrained eye, the many flavors of role-playing games might look the same. Since the genres inception, role-playing games have featured a strong emphasis on character building, inventory management, and more often than not take place in a fantasy setting. Once you start to look closer, though, the differences appear: some feature a more action-focused approach to loot gathering such as Diablo, others have more cinematic and story-based aspirations like Mass Effect or the more recent Final Fantasy titles. One subset of the RPG that has always carried with it something of a cult following is the first-person dungeon crawler, ranging all the way back from Ultima Underworld (which can lay claim to being one of the earliest games from a first-person perspective, period) to more recent examples like Legend of Grimrock. The Japanese-made Etrian Odyssey series, adds their own spin to the formula, and the new Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl.

Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan Review | GodisaGeek

Added: 29.08.2013 15:18 | 10 views | 0 comments

GodisaGeek: "Dont come into this one expecting a story for the ages, CG cutscenes or a menagerie of individually identifiable characters. Its an old-school, extremely lengthy, extremely difficult affair which harkens back to a time when a game could and would kick your ass and send you crying to your mummy. With a plethora of customisation options available to your party, and a map-drawing system that makes exploring the huge dungeon areas a real treat, there is plenty to get your teeth into. Legends of the Titan is yet another banger straight out of the top drawer for 3DS owners, who can now add this little beauty to their expanding collection."

Pixelitis Picks: Best A.I. characters not named GLaDOS

Added: 29.08.2013 0:18 | 1 views | 0 comments

"When it comes to pop culture and science fiction tropes, the all-seeing artificial intelligence the either helps or impedes the protagonists efforts has created some memorable moments. From the moment HAL 9000 went rogue in 2001: A Space Odyssey to the genocidal actions of AM in Harlan Ellisons I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, the proliferation of sentient virtual beings has spilled over into our sci-fi-based videogames, as well. While GLaDOS may be heralded as one of the most cleverly-written A.I. characters in recent memory, we think there are some others that deserve just as much praise. Be it a malevolent, all-seeing stalker or a wise-cracking sidekick, we present to you some of the best AI videogame characters that have zilch to do with cake." - Pixelitis Staff

Eskimo Press: "Old-school dungeon crawling and brutal difficulty. The mere mention of these two things will scare off the average gamer and attract the hardcore, and these elements are exactly what Etrian Odyssey IV aim to deliver. Developed by Atlus, the Etrian Odyssey series is one that keeps the old-school RPG alive while striving to evolve and make it more welcoming to newcomers."
