Inspired by J-RPGs and built using the UbiArt framework, the game looks incredibly promising. Gamasutra: "After seven years on major Ubisoft franchises, Patrick Plourde finally got to pitch his own game. His boss, CEO Yves Guillemot, wondered why the proposed budget was so (relatively) small. Plourde, creative director on Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, had been feeling a little uncertain of himself. How much genuine impact did he make, working on such large teams? 'Am I a fake creative guy because Im hiding behind 600 people? Can I be in the same league as [Thatgamecompanys] Jenova Chen?' Empowered by this uncertainty, Plourde and his team now have an opportunity to bring their triple-A experience to a smaller project, and show that they have what it takes to deliver something different from the standard fare."

Editor Patrick Rost: "No matter the theme or cast of characters, its always great fun to beat up hordes of angry enemies. Thats a truth that Tecmo Koei is banking on with their licensed beat-em-up title One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2. While Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew are the perfect set of ragamuffins to control in a riot of enemy fighters, their actions soon go from awesome to tiresome after the thousandth enemy killed and the hundredth pressing of the same three button combo. Unfortunately for this game, thats just the first level."

"This is original, and it's entertaining, and people are looking for that," says Ubisoft.
Ubisoft Montreal's Child of Light is every bit as worthwhile as the stereotypical 60 dollar boxed blockbuster release, creative director Patrick Plourde has told OXM.
