Mike Stubbs: "The gameplay never gets old and there is so much choice that no two playthroughs will ever be the same. It isnt only Metal Gear fans who should be interested in this, everyone should be interested in this whether you have played anything like it before or not. Quite simply, this isnt just the best Metal Gear game, nor is it just the best stealth game, it is one of the best games ever made."

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Review | Game Trailers

GT: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is effectively an ending. Although Metal Gear may continue, many important people behind it, including creator Hideo Kojima, will no longer be involved. Yet the Phantom Pain doesnt feel like an ending, but rather a beginning. The game marks a bold new chapter for the series, taking it in a direction its never been before. Set in a huge open world, Metal Gear has never felt so expansive. Its far more than space though that makes the game so different. Phantom Pain is extremely ambitious in nearly every aspect. And while it does occasionally falter under the weight of that ambition, it nonetheless features and allows for many incredible moments.

Josh from SR writes, "After spending four days straight with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I can safely say its Hideo Kojimas magnum opus. Its quite simply the best game hes ever done, plus the amount of freedom given to you throughout its entirety is absurd."

The Phantom Pain is unlike other Metal Gear games | Eurogamer

EG: The dense zaniness that has defined Metal Gear seems to have been largely transposed from the story to your moment to moment actions, and to a vast open world that's surprisingly taut and refined, coursed with rich strategy that plays both on and off the field. Metal Gear Solid 5 is a different type of open world game, then, and a different type of Metal Gear game. After playing through a chunk of the Phantom Pain's campaign, there's every reason to think that Kojima's last entry in the series may well be his best yet.

Overall Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is truly a Hideo Kojima game, even though the promotional part of it might say otherwise. It takes the series' best features and works them into a new type of Metal Gear Solid. Saying that, the game works and is probably the best in the series.

Ranking the Metal Gear Solid Games

Paste: "Metal Gear Solid sure is a strange duck. Writer/designer Hideo Kojimas signature work isnt just one of the most famous series of games ever made. It also has the unique honor of being one of the saddest and wackiest as well, a pile of games willing to tackle the ramifications of gamifying the military and to ask what it means to leave behind a meaningful legacywhile making scat jokes and letting you use peepholes in Porkys-like fashion. There is perhaps no better series that manages to chart the ambitious highs and juvenile lows of videogames. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, supposedly the last one, is just around the corner so lets take a look back and settle once and for all which Metal Gear Solid game is the best."
