MMGN preview: Borderlands 2 is the highest-selling 2K Games title ever. It won Game of the Year awards, people were clamouring for more DLC for it, and eventually Sony even came to Gearbox and offered to foot the bill to get the game on the PS Vita. The demand for more Borderlands is there, but according to Randy Pitchford the manpower at Gearbox simply wasn't. Enter 2K Australia.

New Borderlands old-gen only because "that's where demand lives"

GR-UK writes: "With confirmation that a new Borderlands title is in the works came the news that it's not being developed (currently anyway) for Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Gearbox's Randy Pitchford gave a few reasons when queried about the decision, stating that it's a mixture of lower install bases ("there are fewer Xbox Ones and PS4s than we sold copies of Borderlands 2") and financial viability ("it's not free to build a game on next-gen"). "When you're deciding where to spend your resources, I think we want to spend all of the attention we can on the game itself," he rationalised when asked directly about the decision, explaining that not everybody's upgraded to the newer systems, but nearly everybody who has a newer system also owns one of the older consoles. "If you imagine where that demand lives," he said, "it lives on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC. We don't know to what extent it will live on the next-gen. "...If you try and imagine the set of Borderlands players have a...

News: Why isn't Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel releasing on PS4 or Xbox One?

Added: 09.04.2014 13:03 | 9 views | 0 comments

And why isn't Gearbox developing it? Pitchford explains.

Ruling out a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in a presentation shown to VideoGamer.com earlier this week, Pitchford explained that The Pre-Sequel is "a new fully standalone game. It's going to launch on the platforms that we know our customers have, so it's going to launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. There's no next-gen version of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel."

He later suggested that porting the game to next-gen would have moved resources away from the game itself, adding:

"It's not free to build a game for next-gen, right? So when you're deciding...

Butt-slams plus jetpacks times lasers equals more Borderlands.

The game is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and tells the story of Handsome Jack’s rise to prominence. SPOILERS for those yet to play 2: Handsome Jack is the main villain and is killed by the Vault Hunters. Despite being intrinsically evil, he’s quite a cool character, so the chance to see more of Jack will no doubt whet the appetite of Borderlands fans.

2. You can play as Claptrap

The Pre-Sequel features four playable characters from both the first and second games, one of which is everyone’s favourite companion, Claptrap. Randy Pitchford said in the...

Play as Claptrap in 2K Australia's last-gen-only interquel.

Developed by 2K Australia in collaboration with Gearbox, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place between the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and explores the rise of Handsome Jack, putting players into the role of one of four characters – including Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer and, for the first time in the series, Claptrap.

"Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a whole new game, it's a standalone game in the Borderlands franchise," Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford explained in a presentation to VideoGamer.com earlier this week. "It takes place...
